JOIN OUR 2022 SUMMER TEAM

WILDERNESS LEADER INTERNSHIP

PREREQUISITES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 18 years old 

  • High school graduate; current university student or graduate preferred

  • Passionate about discipling and investing in youth; willing to learn how to do this in the wilderness classroom

  • Must hold or obtain a Wilderness First Responder certification before the start date

  • Bronze Cross/NL certifications preferred

Our Wilderness Leader Internship (WLI) is an intensive experience in wilderness leadership that will enable you to disciple, equip and empower Christ-like leaders in the wilderness classroom. This internship is designed for mature leaders 19+ who have a desire to make disciples and are willing to place themselves in a context where they will learn, grow and lead. 

In May, you will head out on the Wilderness Leadership Expedition (WLE), our cornerstone wilderness course. Following WLE, you will receive three weeks of Wilderness Instructor Training, followed by two months of "field experience" as an instructor leading our wilderness and adventure programs for youth. Interns will serve as key members of our Summer Team, investing in younger staff and students. You will end the summer as a recognized "Coldwater Wilderness Instructor", potentially leading to future leadership opportunities with Coldwater. 

This internship will allow you to grow and be formed as you prepare to intentionally invest yourself in others. If you are:

  • Interested in leadership development, youth ministry, mentoring and adventure programming

  • Seeking growth in your character, relationships, spiritual intimacy and the way you serve

  • Desiring to be sharpened as a leader, refined as an educator and empowered as a disciple-maker

Then this internship is for you! You will be challenged and encouraged to grow in your relationship with Christ and will learn to intentionally disciple others to do the same. All accepted interns must be certified as a Wilderness First Responder prior to heading out on WLE in May. Bronze Cross or NL certifications are also preferred. 

 

As a Wilderness Leader Intern, you will:

  • Participate in our Wilderness Leadership Expedition (WLE)

  • Have significant opportunities to lead

  • Receive wilderness skill instruction

  • Develop a Christ-centred philosophy of leadership

  • Be trained in and practice experiential learning, adventure education, small group development, facilitation, debriefing, program design, 1:1 counselling and spiritual formation

  • Participate in an intentional Christian community

  • Gain experience teaching and instructing

  • Receive financial compensation for program leadership in July and August

There is no fee for participating in this internship. This summer, we are asking each team member to fundraise leadership sponsorship funds to help cover a portion of their ministry experience. We have a process in place and will support you in doing this!

Kitchen Manager

PREREQUISITES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 18 years old 

  • High School Graduate

  • Current Ontario Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to start date)

  • Experience working in a kitchen

  • Organized and attentive to detail

ROLE DESCRIPTION

At Coldwater, we value living a healthy lifestyle. One way we accomplish this is by providing our staff, volunteers and participants with high quality and nutritious meals. We cater to food allergies and sensitivities and include a selection of well-balanced meals. We enjoy getting creative with homemade specialties such as breads, granola, wood-fired pizza and soups. We are looking for someone who shares in our intentional approach to healthy eating. Our summer basecamp kitchen is in need of an individual who can work well under pressure, communicate clearly,  and is willing to exceed the Ministry of Health standards in the Kitchen. 

 

We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating an atmosphere of encouragement, fun and positivity; someone who is willing to solve problems, improve our systems and enjoys taking initiative. As a valued part of the team, this staff will participate in weekly staff meetings, morning thoughts and help with any other duties as required. 

 

Coldwater provides room, board and financial compensation for the duration of the contract. This summer, we are asking each team member to fundraise leadership sponsorship funds to help cover a portion of their ministry experience. We have a process in place and will support you in doing this! We also want to invest in our staff and will provide our foundational Wilderness Leadership Expedition (WLE) trip in May, free of charge for the accepted applicant.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all food preparations, serving of meals, and cleanup

  • Provide supervision and direction for staff and volunteers in kitchen and dining hall

  • Train all kitchen workers with safe food handling and additional cooking skills

  • Create a bi-weekly menu and kitchen work schedule

  • Assist the Business Manager in all food ordering and purchasing

  • Develop a schedule ensuring you or an assistant is present at every meal and kitchen cleanup to supervise and assist

  • Be responsible for kitchen laundry → collect, wash, dry, put away

  • Provide alternative meal options for those with special needs or dietary restrictions; post dietary restrictions and food allergies weekly in the kitchen

  • Organize a weekly deep clean of entire kitchen and dining hall facilities 

  • Ensure dining hall is set up properly for all meals

  • Perform a daily water test in both camp kitchens; record on the designated sheet

  • Maintain the Coldwater recipe book and update as needed

MARKETING COORDINATOR

PREREQUISITES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 18 years old 

  • Comfortable using social media platforms including Facebook & Instagram

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Professional and courteous verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Marketing Coordinator plays a key role at Coldwater by sharing our story and the story of the participants. This position is responsible for updating and implementing our Marketing and Communication Strategy. Responsibilities will include collecting videos, stories, photos and testimonies, turning this material into compelling content to reach participants and stakeholders.

 

The Marketing Coordinator will work as a team with other senior staff to coordinate all digital social media platforms and the scheduling of posts. The ideal candidate will ensure all communication is documented, and consistent with our strategy, purpose, values and ethos. The Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for developing an organized digital filing system, organizing all photos, videos and other media content.

  • Implement marketing strategy including the scheduling of posts

  • Collect all trip photos and organize on the Coldwater computer/hard drive

  • Responsible to create post-trip slideshow after each program

  • Complete SEO optimization for website

  • By the end of the summer have an updated version of the website ready to publish

  • Collect interviews of participants after each trip

  • Record and type testimonies from celebration services

  • By end of the summer complete 5 “My Story” posts ready to be published 

  • Draft and schedule social media posts to last until Christmas, building around events in the Coldwater calendar

  • Send out feedback surveys to participants and parents; compile responses into an end-of-season report

  • Attend all team meetings

  • Any other duties as required
