ROLE DESCRIPTION

This position could be described as the glue that holds everything together. The Administrative Assistant plays a vital role in responding to the needs of staff, participants, parents and volunteers. Coldwater values professional, intentional and timely communication. We are looking for an individual who has a detailed and administrative mindset as they oversee many office related responsibilities. This person is comfortable taking initiative and is self-motivated as they oversee and manage daily tasks and projects in the office at our summer basecamp.

 

This person will also oversee volunteer orientation, training, scheduling and preparations for a volunteer’s stay at camp. This role is responsible for providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere as a host for the duration of their stay. The ideal candidate will share in our passion to empower and equip youth in their faith and leadership; someone who will embrace this role as a Coldwater ambassador when interacting with participants, parents, and the community, both in person and electronically.

 

As a valued part of the team, this staff will participate in weekly staff meetings, other camp rhythms and will help with any other duties as required. Coldwater provides room, board and financial compensation for the duration of the contract. We also want to invest in our staff and will provide our foundational two-week Wilderness Leadership Expedition (WLE) trip at the end of May free of charge for the accepted applicant.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee administrative responsibilities for our summer programs and office area

  • Coordinate volunteer scheduling; communicate with volunteers via email, phone, etc.

  • Design a camp orientation for volunteers and serve as host when guests are present

  • Be trained in and use our Campwise software for the summer programs

  • Oversee check-in and check-out times for all programs and groups

  • Manage the Coldwater camp store and apparel sales

  • Assist with photocopying and packet assembly for programs as needed

  • Send out feedback surveys to participants and parents; compile responses into an end-of-season report

  • Responsible to answer the camp phone and respond to messages as necessary

  • Work closely with the Director and Business Manager to assist with any other tasks as required

Kitchen Manager

KITCHEN MANAGER

  • Current Ontario Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to start date)

  • Experience working in a kitchen

  • Organized and attentive to detail

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

At Coldwater, we value living a healthy lifestyle. One way we accomplish this is by providing our staff, volunteers and participants with high quality and nutritious meals. We cater to food allergies and sensitivities and include a selection of well-balanced meals. We enjoy getting creative with homemade specialties such as breads, granola, wood-fired pizza and soups. We are looking for someone who shares in our intentional approach to healthy eating. Our summer basecamp kitchen is in need of an individual who can work well under pressure, communicate clearly,  and is willing to exceed the Ministry of Health standards in the Kitchen.

 

This position includes an important leadership component through teaching, guiding and directing the Assistant Kitchen Manager, other staff, volunteers and occasionally participants. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating an atmosphere of encouragement, fun and positivity; someone who is willing to problem solve, seeks to improve our systems and enjoys taking initiative. As a valued part of the team, this staff will participate in weekly staff meetings, morning thoughts and help with any other duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all food preparations, serving of meals, and cleanup

  • Provide supervision and direction for staff and volunteers in kitchen and dining hall

  • Train all kitchen workers with safe food handling and additional cooking skills

  • Create a bi-weekly menu and kitchen work schedule

  • Assist the Business Manager in all food ordering and purchasing

  • Develop a schedule for you and the Assistant Kitchen Manager ensuring one of you is present at every meal and kitchen cleanup to supervise and assist

  • Be responsible for kitchen laundry → collect, wash, dry, put away

  • Provide alternative meal options for those with special needs or dietary restrictions; post dietary restrictions and food allergies weekly in the kitchen

  • Organize a weekly deep clean of entire kitchen and dining hall facilities

  • Ensure dining hall is set up properly for all meals

  • Maintain the Coldwater recipe book and update as needed

Assistant Kitchen manager

  • Current Ontario Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to start date)

  • Some experience working in a kitchen

  • Works well with others

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership in the kitchen under the direction of the Kitchen Manager

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager with overseeing all food preparations, serving of meals, and cleanup

  • Contribute to creating the bi-weekly food menu and kitchen work schedule

  • Maintain inventory of all food and supplies

  • Assist in training other staff and volunteers in kitchen procedures and safe food handling

  • Work alongside staff and volunteers when help is needed with food preparation, cooking, serving, cleanup, etc.

  • Prepare special meal plans for participants with special needs or dietary restrictions; reflect these plans in an appropriate document to post in the kitchen for all staff to see

  • Responsible for ensuring breakfast buffet is set out on time

  • Set-up dining hall for all meals

  • Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and exceeds the Ministry of Health standards

 

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and supervisory meetings

  • Meet with mentor on a weekly basis

  • Help with any other duties as required

Leadership Programs Coordinator

LEADERSHIP COORDINATOR

  • Organizational and leadership skills

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Leadership development is core to our ministry and programs, and our big hope is to see young leaders rooted in Jesus, raising-up and discipling other leaders, serving in local churches, and influencing change in their communities. Some of the greatest change we hope to see this summer is through our high school leadership programs, IGNITE and THARSÉŌ. We are looking to hire two mature leaders who are passionate about leading, mentoring and discipling high school students through these intensive programs.

 

The ideal candidate will be excited to lead and teach in small groups, comfortable managing conflict and willing to take initiative in the development of a safe and encouraging environment. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day interactions, support, guidance, debriefs, check-ins and program implementation with either IGNITE or THARSÉŌ. This position will have the privilege of walking alongside the students in your assigned program as they uncover important truths about their own life, faith and leadership.

 

As a valued part of our summer team, this staff will participate in weekly staff meetings, morning thoughts and help with any other duties as required. Coldwater provides room, board and financial compensation for the duration of the contract. We also want to invest in our staff and will provide our foundational two-week Wilderness Leadership Expedition (WLE) trip at the end of May free of charge for the two accepted applicants. The Leadership Programs Coordinator will be equipped through participation in WLI (Wilderness Leader Internship) training for much of June, while also planning for implementation of their assigned program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the program calendar

  • Lead Bible/ book study with members of your program

  • Facilitate group development initiatives

  • Plan and coordinate off-site excursions

  • Coordinate weekly schedules with other staff

  • Facilitate weekly meetings and debriefs for your group

  • Support and challenge your students in their roles

  • Design and co-lead a wilderness trip for your students with an instructor

  • Provide leadership during both BEDROCK weeks

Waterfront Manager

WATERFRONT MANAGER

PREREQUISITES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 18 years old

  • High School Graduate

  • Current National Lifeguard certification

  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certification

  • Current Waterfront Lifeguard Instructor certification

  • Lifeguard experience preferred

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Coldwater basecamp is located on an beautiful northern Ontario lake. We have the pleasure of enjoying a beach waterfront while swimming, having a sauna, or simply relaxing in the sun. The waterfront is often a highlight for our participants with lots of fun activities and new experiences. We take an all-encompassing approach to safety at our basecamp and conduct swim tests, canoe lessons, camp searches and first-aid training for all staff.

 

We are looking for an individual who is willing to embrace both the responsibility of overseeing risk at the waterfront as well as creating a fun and encouraging atmosphere. The Waterfront Manager will ensure that the site, resources, and procedures meet or exceed Ministry of Health guidelines for camps and will keep the Director informed of all waterfront injuries or infractions. The ideal candidate will take initiative in this role, communicate clearly and effectively, and be willing to engage with other staff and participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all waterfront activities for participants, staff, and volunteers

  • Train and supervise the lifeguarding team

  • Ensure general safety at the waterfront and manage all lifeguarding emergencies

  • Coordinate necessary lifeguarding schedules with other senior staff

  • Ensure that the waterfront site, resources, and lifeguarding procedures meet or exceed the Ministry of Health’s waterfront guidelines for camps

  • Coordinate any special lifeguarding measures needed for swimmers with disabilities

  • Clean and maintain the waterfront area

  • Implement the camp’s tag board and buddy system

  • Coordinate camp lifesaving and swimming lessons as necessary

  • Respond immediately to any emergency/injury that occurs in the waterfront area

  • Responsible to report all waterfront injuries and infractions to the Director

Property Manager

PROPERTY MANAGER

PREREQUISITES/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

  • High School Graduate

  • Valid driver's license

  • Maintenance, construction and groundskeeping experience preferred

  • Chainsaw license preferred

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The ministry of Coldwater Canada is blessed with the use of a beautiful and well-used basecamp on the Camp Norland property in Verner, ON. We seek to create an atmosphere that is inviting, clean, safe, organized, and well cared for, and we are looking for someone who can share in this goal.

 

One of our core values is to ‘make it better.’ We need an individual who is willing to constantly look for ways to make our basecamp better and be excited to take initiative in this role. This position focuses on the care and maintenance of the property and its buildings, and the accepted applicant will have the skills to get the job done. We are seeking someone who is willing to work hard, be attentive to detail and who loves to serve. Not only does this role require hands-on skills but also the ability to guide and work well with others. We are looking for someone who is able to organize and equip both volunteers and IGNITE team members for work days and additional projects. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the camp property and buildings to ensure the camp is kept safe, clean, presentable and welcoming

  • Responsible for maintaining the campgrounds, equipment, tools, etc.

  • Develop a maintenance and camp cleaning schedule, including both the grounds and the buildings

  • Include other staff and volunteers into the schedule as they are available

  • Train, schedule, and supervise other staff in regards to camp cleaning and property upkeep (grass mowing, trimming, wood splitting, etc)

  • Manage garbage and recycling collection

  • Coordinate and oversee building projects as necessary

  • Oversee maintenance yard and ensure the yard is kept in safe working condition

  • Regularly inspect camp vehicle and trailers

  • Perform a daily water test in both camp kitchens; record on the designated sheet

  • Serve as a mentor for younger staff

  • Help with any other duties as required
